On 2 August 2027, the Moon’s shadow crosses the Strait of Gibraltar. Sotogrande (San Roque, Cádiz) sits inside the path of totality with about 4 minutes 17 seconds of morning darkness, according to Spain’s National Geographic Institute (IGN).
This is the practical guide to booking a seat on the flotilla: what the day looks like, what you get, what it costs and what the terms are.
The fleet
The flotilla is operated by Sailing Beyond Limits from Puerto Deportivo de Sotogrande.

Timeline of the morning
The whole experience runs approximately 3.5 to 4 hours, boarding in the morning and returning by early afternoon.

Where the fleet positions
The planned waters lie between Alcaidesa and Sotogrande, typically within about two nautical miles of the coast, with the exact track set by the fleet’s operational plan that morning. The Sun stands high (~38°), so the hills do not interfere — what you gain at sea is a clean horizon, distance from shore crowds, and the ability to reposition if local cloud forms.

Published Early Bird prices are pre-sale rates, valid until 31 December 2026. From 2027 the published price steps up toward the standard rate of 850 €. Booking during Early Bird locks in your rate — later increases do not affect what you already paid. 30 April 2027 is the cancellation deadline, not the end of the Early Bird price.
Terms worth knowing before you book
Weather. From 30 April 2027, a booking cannot be cancelled or refunded solely because of weather, a poor forecast, cloud, rain, fog or reduced visibility. The experience is scheduled to run in those conditions where maritime operation remains safe. After that date, exceptions are limited to genuine force majeure.
Safety on the day. Maritime safety always governs. The skipper may alter the plan, or not sail, if conditions make safe operation impossible.
Eye safety. ISO 12312-2 glasses are mandatory during every partial phase. Only during totality itself — when the Sun is fully covered — may you look with the unprotected eye, and the glasses must go back on the moment it ends.
Private charters and groups
For a party that wants its own vessel, a private eclipse charter is possible as a separate product. Availability is tight and pricing depends on vessel, capacity, duration and brief, so there is no published rate. Send your guest count and requirements and we will confirm what can be arranged.
